Thinking of becoming home-schooled? My story

I just thought I’d share a bit of experience from my side, I’m a Canadian living in Toronto. I home-schooled myself for the last three years of high-school and I must say that I turned out amazing, I’m currently taking biochemistry in one of the top 10 universities in the world, University of Toronto, after my four year B.S.c I’ll be heading off to medical school. Our education system may be free but that doesn’t mean it comes with amazingly equipped teachers, hence everything comes with a price, and that price is the education and well being of your child, mentally.

I would come in late, and sometimes not appear due to just being a regular teenager at the time and rebelling, & skipping class with friends. The teachers somehow felt as if they were psychologists and insisted I must have a “family issue”. Thankfully I speak so well that they couldn’t have the courage to force their need to interfere with peoples lives. Teachers like to pathologize, its what they’re infamous for.

My little sister is in public school and they told her one month ago that she couldn’t read and needed to be tested. Because of the fear they have put into her she is now a perfectionist and can’t handle having even one mistake. Even though she is still in public school and teachers should be teaching her (not US!) we took the matter into our own hands and taught her ourselves, and within a week she learned to spell and can read chapter books, she’s only 8. She has no problems with science and math, thankfully those came natural to her.
